Encaustic

I make my own encaustic medium using damar resin, powdered pigments and pharmaceutical grade beeswax.  The encaustic medium is painted on wooden boards, hot off the griddle.  Additional layers of medium are gently fused to the previous layer using a torch or heat gun.  The designs are incised into the encaustic medium using metal tools and various marking implements, revealing the colored layers beneath.  I use found and recycled elements to add texture and color to the piece.  All the encaustic pieces are framed in black wooden frames.
